Most of the PhD Theses concern one of the two large blocks: either collection of data and their consequent analyses in order to answer specific research questions, or synthesis of already existing data either in form of metaanalyses or development of a simulation model parameterized with available data. Solid line shows the flow from the data collection phase to data analysis, and eventually to the use of derived parameters in metaanalyses and models; dashed line shows the feedback from data synthesis into data collection and analyses of raw data.
